Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. In 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She served on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, tax reform and the budget, as well as the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with the president Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
